Ducati is hard at work developing its new electric superbike, with this latest video dropping this week showing the bike undergoing testing, with Alex De Angelis on board.
The track here is Italy’s Vallelunga Circuit, quite a distance from Ducati’s home base in Bologna, but no doubt the company has its reasons for testing here—Ducati’s blurb on the YouTube channel makes it sound as if the company is running the bike at a variety of Italian tracks. If so, that’s smart, as the machine must be able to handle a wide range of conditions when it comes to MotoE World Cup competition next year! De Angelis joins longtime Ducati factory tester Michele Pirro to give the company a good 1-2 punch to assess the bike; Pirro’s been testing Ducs since 2013 and has a great overview of the company’s race lineup. De Angelis is an electric racing specialist, having run in the MotoE class for Octo Pramac MotoE in 2019 and 2020 after a long career in MotoGP that went all the way back to the 125cc two-stroke days.
Here’s what Roberto Canè, Ducati’s eMobility director, said about the project so far:
“Ever since we took the Ducati MotoE prototype to the track for the first time, development work on the project has never stopped, not even for a moment. The hard work of the whole team is paying off for the efforts made through continuous progress, which is giving us great satisfaction. In just four months, our prototype has already tackled the curves of some of the main Italian circuits, providing positive responses. There is still a lot of work to do, but the direction is certainly the right one”.
Ducati’s experience in the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup will be a fundamental support for product R&D. The goal is to create, as soon as the technology allows it, a Ducati electric vehicle for road use that is sporty, light, exciting, and able to satisfy all enthusiasts
