Enhanced Porsche Taycan EV Delivers Extended Range and Expedited Charging

Key points

  • Impressive Range: The latest Porsche Taycan surpasses 587km, marking a significant increase of over 160km compared to the current model.

  • Enhanced Performance: Porsche claims the updated Taycan offers improved range and quicker charging capabilities, setting new standards in electric vehicles.

  • Future Prospects: With the unveiling of the new model imminent, Porsche continues to refine its electric lineup for enhanced efficiency and performance.

In preliminary assessments, the latest Porsche Taycan showcased an impressive driving range, surpassing 587 kilometers. These tests, although conducted on pre-series models, exhibited a remarkable increase of over 160 kilometers compared to the current model. While these figures are not officially certified, Porsche asserts that the extensively updated Taycan offers enhanced range and faster charging capabilities.

Kevin Giek, Vice President of the Taycan model line, elaborated, "For the particularly efficient Taycan sports saloon with the large battery, this practical, final test resulted in a total range of up to 587 kilometers." He emphasized that the initial range test in Southern California vividly showcased the efficiency of the reworked Taycan. Porsche remains committed to refining its "fast travel" strategy, aiming for shorter charging stops and extended real-world range.

Conducted under typical Californian conditions along Interstate Highways 405 and 5, the range tests featured the new models equipped with Porsche's larger Performance Battery Plus. The maximum driving speed was maintained at 120 KPH.

Charging operations took place at an Electrify America station in Torrance. The new Taycan demonstrated charging rates exceeding 300 kW for several minutes, accomplishing a charge from 10% to 80% in well under 20 minutes.

Porsche is set to unveil the new model soon. Since commencing production in 2019, nearly 150,000 electric Taycan models have been manufactured, laying a solid foundation for the forthcoming model's success.

Additionally, an upgraded sporty Taycan Turbo GT recently clocked an impressive lap time of 7:07:55 at the Nurburgring, outperforming the current model by 26 seconds and the Tesla Model S Plaid by 18 seconds. Although falling just over two seconds short of the Rimac Nevera's record, it's a notable achievement for Porsche.

Stay tuned for further updates, as Porsche is expected to officially introduce the new Taycan EV imminently.
