Mercedes Shows Off 4 New EV Models at the IAA Motor Show.

Mercedes-Benz previewed future SUVs and cars on the first day of the IAA Mobility 2021 show. A roster of all-electric models and concept cars displayed the sustainable, speedy and super luxury side of the company's business.

The German automaker has announced plans to offer a fully electric model in every vehicle segment it sells, starting from 2022 and from 2025 every model sold will be offered in pure-electric form.

Concept Mercedes‑Maybach EQS.

Let’s start with the high end brand, the Concept EQS, Mercedes-Maybach. This is providing a clear preview of the first fully electric series-production model for the tradition-steeped luxury brand. The SUV concept vehicle is based on the modular architecture for luxury- and executive-class electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz and takes the exclusivity of Maybach into a locally emission-free future. The near-production one-off shows identifying features that are characteristic of Maybach – such as the elaborate two-tone paint finish, an innovative drive technology, a floating center console and MBUX Hyperscreen, a three-screen display. The passenger has a 12.3-inch OLED display to themselves. Round air vents with galvanised trim tie the SUV to its Mercedes and takes a step towards a significantly more progressive way of presenting the brand.

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE

The EQE is the second model based on Mercedes premium electric vehicle architecture. Mercedes-Benz states, the car combines dynamic performance and handling with relaxed travel – and sets the new benchmark in its class. The same applies to its generous interior space, while the one-bow body design gives the EQE an eye appealing physique. Its world premiere revealed that the car has dimensions similar to the existing Mercedes-Benz CLS, however its interior is more expansive and seating position is 2.5 inches higher. Mercedes engineers have equipped the EQE with a 90-kilowatt-hour battery and states it gives the car around 600km of all-electric range.

Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+

The AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is the first all-electric ambassador in the performance segment, made in Affalterbach. At the heart of the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is its performance-oriented drive concept with two motors. The powerful electric powertrain with one motor each at the front and rear axles has fully-variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The basic version achieves a maximum total output of 484 kW up to 560kW, for the DYNAMIC PLUS package. Another feature is its sound system, it uses special loudspeakers, shakers and a sound generator to create a special sound experience in two versions: "Authentic" or "Performance". This exclusive AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE is generated inside and out with a tonality and intensity to match the current driving status, the selected driving mode or the driver's wishes.

The Concept EQG all-terrain model.

The Concept EQG, Mercedes-Benz presents the near-production study of an all-electric model variant of its utilitarian off-road icon. Visually, the concept car combines the unmistakably striking look of the G-Class with selected design elements typical of all-electric models from Mercedes as contrasting highlights. The 4x4 qualities of the "G", will find its way into the age of electric mobility guaranteeing great torque to be beneficial for any off road journey, but will be developed even further in some areas. The Concept EQG rides on 22-inch polished aluminium alloy wheels in an exclusive design. Instead of the usual spare wheel cover, there is a lockable box with white illuminated accents on the rear door, whose design is reminiscent of a wallbox. The Concept EQG thus offers a promising preview of what a Mercedes-Benz G-Class with battery-electric drive will be capable of.

Though Mercedes-Benz has already produced a few EV vehicles, this has provided us with a good insight of what else they have up their sleeves.

With one BEV now selling in Australia, let’s see what else arrives over the coming years.
