New technology requires new skills



Australia's automotive industry is at a “revolutionary turning point” amid the transition to EV’s and with this turning point occurring at a rapid rate, employers and technicians will have to quickly upskill to avoid unsafe practices that could harm either, the EV technician or the vehicle.


The MTA institute is at present, one of only a few that currently offer non manufacturers EV technicians with a training course to provide knowledge and skills in how to service EVs, as well as the risks and safety methods involved.


Course description

This course covers the fundamental requirements for inspecting and servicing battery electric vehicle (BEV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) systems and components in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.


ACCREDITED UNITS

  • Depower and reinitialize battery electric vehicles

  • Service and maintain battery electric vehicles

  • Diagnose and repair high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems in battery electric vehicles

  • Diagnose and repair system instrumentation and safety interlocks in battery electric vehicles

  • Diagnose and repair high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems in hybrid electric vehicles

  • Depower and reinitialise hybrid electric vehicles

  • Service and maintain electrical components in hybrid electric vehicle
