Orbea Rise joins the brand’s full suspension e-MTB lineup

Orbea says, this is a machine designed to expand your trail experience and bring you closer to the moment, so let’s see what it has.

Rider Synergy (RS) Concept

RS is a new philosophy – a completely integrated system that becomes a reality when Power, Range, Interface, and Weight are considered together.

Orbea had been looking for the best way to achieve this for a long time, so when Shimano shared the plans for their new EP8 motor, they quickly realized that this awesome drive unit offered us the perfect platform on which to build the RS Power concept. Working jointly with Shimano, Orbea developed our proprietary electronics and batteries while Shimano configured their EP8 motor to work perfectly running our specific RS firmware. It’s structurally identical to a regular Shimano EP8 motor, though Orbea has restricted the peak torque output from 85Nm to 60Nm. It’s specific firmware, changing the way the power is delivered to feel more seamless and less obvious than a traditional e-MTB. As well as improving efficiency, Orbea wanted to create a more natural riding experience that relies less on the motor and more on your legs.

Less power, less weight

Because the EP8-RS motor draws less power, to begin with, the Orbea Rise can be built with a smaller 360Wh battery. Utilising new generation 21700 cells, the slim battery is claimed to weigh just 2.2kg. That’s about 60% of the weight of a Shimano 630Wh battery. Or in other words, a hefty 1.5kg saving. The frame can then also be made lighter since the downtube is considerably smaller.

Rs Range

Rise is intended for big rides. 8 hours and over 4,000m of climbing in Eco mode. Rise features a modular battery solution that provides up to 612wh, combining a very light and compact 360wh main battery integrated into the down tube with a patent-pending 252Wh range extender.

Trail balanced suspension

The support provided by the progressive rate along with the anti-squat characteristics of the main pivot placement mean Rise is an efficient pedaler that won’t sap your energy in sustained efforts. A high starting leverage rate gives a plush and active feel combined with terrific traction. A progressive curve controls the bike in full-travel situations - the inevitable big hits that come along with pointing a capable bike down a rocky trail. From the factory, there’s a 0.2³ volume spacer fitted inside the DPX2’s large volume air can. However, Orbea also includes a bigger 0.4³ volume spacer in the box – a simple but very welcome addition that we’d love to see from more manufacturers.
