The EV juggernaut rolls on in 2021 with the launch of the Kia Niro EV



A Quick overview .

With the local pricing for the 2021 Kia Niro EV starting at $62,490 plus on-road costs for the Niro EV S, rising to $65,990 plus ORCs for the Niro EV Sport it's still not cheap, but it will be very popular contender in the big Australian SUV market. The Kia Niro EV is a 5-seater crossover SUV that offers a compelling set of features, storage and range.


Kia’s first all-electric vehicle offers up to 455km (WLTP) with fast charging up to 150kW for it 64kWh battery. While most charging is likely to be done at home, when you are on a road trip, you can leverage the CCS2 DC fast charging of 3rd party networks like Chargefox, Evie and others to go from 0-80% in 53 minutes.


Niro Full Electric is equipped with a Smart Regeneration System which controls the regenerative braking level automatically through the front radar to further improve energy efficiency.


Design highlights

The patterned tiger nose grille is surrounded by chevron-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights and dual LED headlights, adding striking modern style and greater visibility. Air flows over the Niro EV's front end with minimal resistance.


Progressive design meets performance focus in the drag-reducing rear spoiler, improving aerodynamics and range. A modernised rear bumper and available LED Rear Combination Lights complete the refined and very appealing appearance of Niro EV.


Interior tech

When it comes to infotainment, there’s a 10.25″ touchscreen on the Sport model, or 8″ on the S version. This supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you pay up for the top model, you’ll also get JBL premium sound and LED headlights, but it’s the technology that’s possibly the biggest seller here.

The Nira EV offers a range of safety and technology features. These include

Blind Spot -The BSD uses sensors to monitor the side and rear of the vehicle and warns the driver of other vehicles in the blind spots to make changing lanes safer and easier.Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist and the most interesting one, Lane Follow Assist.


Lane Following Assist works with the Smart Cruise Control system to help the vehicle remain in the centre of the lane by continuously correcting the course of the vehicle when Smart Cruise Control is activated.
