The Freeride E-XC brings 100 percent of KTMs championship winning performance with zero emissions and it represents the latest generation of electric bikes.

It features a brushless 18 kW synchronous motor in a modern FREERIDE chassis with WP XPLOR suspension front and rear, making it outstandingly agile, as well as highly dynamic with great offroad mobility. The company says, the KTM FREERIDE E-XC is a true all-rounder for pure fun on every terrain.

A claimed 18kW, 42Nm of torque from the brushless permanent magnet, synchronous electric motor equates to a 125cc MX bike in real, fossil fuel-burning terms, and is said to be certainly lively yet very linear after full power is radiated. Being electric, every single ounce of grunt is available on tap straight away. Misconceptions surrounding electric bikes involve toy-like similarities but we know, the Es have more than enough in the locker to cause pain.

There are three preset riding modes: 1, 2, and 3. 1 is very soft, power culled for beginners. 2 is softened initially but heats up towards the top-end, like an enduro map. 3 is the full-fat MX-style brutal power delivery, which is believed to be highly entertaining.

From fully charged (which should take around 80 minutes), KTM reckons you can expect up to one and a half hours of riding time with just one battery charge. Changing the battery itself takes 30 seconds, lifting the seat and exposing four easily accessible bolts, swap out the lithium-ion KTM PowerPack and keep the good times going. It’s also worth noting that energy recuperation when coasting or braking provides additional range.

The KTM is one of the first mainstream motorcycle companies to venture into the “E” product. With no fuel or no oil required, being quiet as a mouse and pumping out zero emissions is an insight into the future of offroad riding. Imagine being out and around and you’re not upsetting anyone with regards to noise and fuel smell and pollution.

And finally, there is no formal announcement from KTM Australia as to when they will release it locally. However, as shown on their website, they are recommending that you contact dealers. Let’s cross our fingers that we’ll see this sooner than later.
