You’re looking at the new high end Nio ES7, a new electric SUV that slots into the hotly contested mid-sized EV sector. It’s not coming to the land Downunder just yet, but the brand recently launched in Norway.

This month, NIO held a Product Launch Event which premiered the ES7, a smart electric mid-large SUV, and the 2022 ES8, ES6, and EC6.
NIO ES7's exterior showcases NIO's latest design language with reductive lines and powerful proportions. It is also the first SUV application of the "Design for AD" ethos. The front fascia's Shark Nose and Diamond cut plan view celebrate the pure X Bar design. NIO furthered its distinct SUV design language with sophisticated wheel arches, increasing ES7's road presence. The double-dash DRL showcased in the front of ES7 is met by the "Air Wing" taillight that adds visual width.
NIO ES7's interior continues the vision of a "second living room" with sophistication and human touches. A wheelbase of 2960mm gives the ES7 a spacious cabin. The front cabin adopts the double-layer S-shaped instrument panel with expansive use of karuun® sustainable rattan. The ES7 interior is generous in width but especially with additional length in a wrap-around design. Front seats have heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Heated rear seats are standard with power-adjustable seatback between 23° to 31°.
"NIO Digital System for Evolving Smart Technology" also made its debut. It includes smart hardware, computing platform, operating system, smart algorithms, and smart applications. Named after a family of trees, NIO Digital System embodies continuous development into a cohesive eco-system with sustainability in mind. Banyan is the smart operating system on the NT2 platform. NIO Aquila Super Sensing and NIO Adam Super Computing represent the smart hardware and the computing platform. In addition, NIO ES7 comes with the latest NIO Autonomous Driving (NAD). It will gradually achieve a safe, reassuring, point-to-point autonomous driving experience in scenarios such as highways, urban areas, parking, and battery swapping.
NIO ES7 comes standard with PanoCinema, the AR/VR compatible digital cockpit system. NIO and NREAL, an innovative AR device company, developed custom AR glasses that can project an effective 201-inch screen at 6 meters. Coupled with the 256-color digital waterfall ambient lighting and the 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos surround sound system, PanoCinema will bring you an immersive visual and audio experience in the exclusive space of the ES7.
NIO ES7 inherits the second generation high-efficiency e-drive platform with the SiC power module. 0 to 100km/h acceleration is within 3.9 seconds. Brembo 4-piston front calipers are standard.100 to 0km/h braking is within 33.9 meters. Air suspension is also standard across the range. The drag coefficient of ES7 can be as low as 0.263. ES7's CLTC range reaches 485 km with the 75 kWh Standard Range Battery, 620 km with the 100 kWh Long Range Battery, and over 850 km with the 150 kWh Ultralong Range Battery. The combination of Power Home, Power Charger, and a nationwide network of close to 1000 Power Swap stations will eliminate range anxiety for ES7 users.
ES7 is one of the first certified passenger vehicles in China to be able to tow a caravan or a trailer. The optional electric tow bar has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg. In addition, ES7 can supply power to towed equipment. In outdoor scenarios, it can support the Camping Mode and V2L discharging.
With a 75kWh battery, the ES7 starts from RMB 468,000 ( this equates to $101k AUD ), With a 100kWh battery, the price is RMB 526,000 ( this equates to $113k AUD). For the ES7 Premier Edition, the price is RMB 528,000 before subsidies. With BaaS, the pre-subsidy price starts from RMB 398,000. Pre-order starts now on the NIO App. User delivery is expected to start on August 28, 2022.
Nio’s range consists of: the ET5 and ET7 sedans; the EC6 coupe SUV; and the ES6, ES7, and ES8 SUVs.
Now publicly listed on the NYSE, Nio claims to have approximately 7000 employees and a market capitalisation of approximately $US31.05 billion.
Headquartered in Shanghai, the company now has operations around the globe, including a design centre in Munich, an ‘advanced research and innovation’ centre in San Jose (Silicon Valley), and an engineering R&D centre in Oxford, UK.
